Easy-Cheesy Geodesy: A joint is an inch

For September we're doing rules of thumb for measuring. Today a simple one: the inch, which means thumb in many European languages.

It's just this: the “top” of my index finger is a three-inch ruler.

It took me fifty years to notice that? Handy at the hardware store.
