Cottonwode II: Cottonwoods swing
What are the best trees? I mean, come on. It's cottonwoods. Partly because they swing.

Last week I mentioned that cottonwoods grow on the edges of streams. That means a lot of of those kids swinging on a rope into a swimming hole were swinging from cottonwoods.
Maybe not as grand as Robert Frost on a birch or John Muir on a Douglas-fir. But I don't know— those kids had fun.
And may even still. Robert Frost, "Birches," Atlantic Monthly, 1915, via Poetry Foundation. John Muir, “A Wind Storm in the Forests of the Yuba,” Scribner’s Monthly Magazine, 1878, via Library of America.
