Political Cartograms: It's Hip to be Square
Here, pick one:
Cartograms typically make some point by altering the size of states or countries. Equal-area cartograms do this radically: make them all the same!
These fascinate me because they’re discrete, like chess. UT/NV, or NV/UT?
And you'd think the tricky part is the Tiney Niney, from DC to NH, but no it's the Broad Squad, KY-VA-TN-NC, for being so unsquare.
So above it's the New York Times on the left and me on the right. In 2013 mine was better; this time I'm not so sure. I got cute and did VA-WV, but they (like last time) have WI boopin' out the topside. (Plus they omitted the territories. Bad lefties!)
Beware; I've made these since 1999 and in my rabbit's hole are many mansions. If it were not so I would not have prepared this spreadsheet for you.
