RSS is Fun

RSS is just an open way for reading feeds like RSS Longa. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication-- think of TV syndication that distributes a show to any station that wants it.

You don’t read email through Email.com, so why read posts through Facebook and X? They fence you in, they manipulate your feeds, and they're dark little dungeons for billionaires. Uch. Email is better but for me still a chore; it's miscellaneous stuff that others choose for me and I empty once a week.

So for a few fun things I subscribe by RSS, and when they post an article my web browser shows a little "badge" and I click and read. Pretty simple— you don’t even create an account or give them your email address. Millions of websites have RSS feeds, with or without the orange icon. (Although some some feeds only give you a summary, with a link to the full article.) You may even see one raw:

There are fancy RSS readers like Feedly, but I use a simple plugin for the Chrome browser called Feedbro (in Chrome > go to chromewebstore.google.com > search for Feedbro > Add to Chrome). I also like the popular Inoreader.

I'm still learning, so send suggestions and I'll keep this updated. See you Thurssdays.
