St. Olaf 150th: Women in Hats
This month we are looking at a rephoto not yet shot, a circular class picture at St. Olaf College.
Last week was an unpopulated test shot at Olaf, just me standing there for scale. This week is the previous step, shot elsewhere but with a whole matching crowd.
This is a few miles south, the post-COVID reunion at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in 2022. It's the only rephoto I've ever done with lots of people. The original is a classic Cirkut panorama from 1916, the 50th anniversary of St. Mary's. Love the hats.
Note that— except for the stragglers— it's only a half-circle of people. But they are indeed on a circle, as they are in all of these photos, to make the wall-hangings look straight.
So the obvious idea is to complete that circle. More next week.
Thanks to Elizabeth Campbell for the four-foot photo, Susan Garwood and the Rice County Historical Society for the scanning, SSM alums for their participation, and Shattuck-St. Mary's Institutional Advancement (and faculty brats) for facilitating on a busy day.
