St. Olaf 150th: The Best One

This May I've made a recipe for a photo I’ve never seen, a circular repeat class photo, by taking something borrowed something blue from photos I have seen. You can read that recipe here, here and here.

So to finish up, another commencement circle. "The Main's" front lawn this time, uncut by any road then, the college's front porch and a meaningful space.

I love the wind, the dos, the hats, the hat underfoot, the hats downwind on Old Main's shadow, the woman with cap and grin and no gown, the ceegars, Dr. Strangelove, and the buildings like Carleton's Willis Hall, St. John's Lutheran, and 101 Lincoln where students still live.

But mostly I love the faces at their friend Ole Felland, and mostly the woman's holding Ole Rolvaag. For my money, and my time looking through all these photos, this one near the end of his life was Felland's best.

We should shoot it again from the inside.
